Italia (Isola d'Elba)
Italia (Roma, Firenze, Pisa)
Day 1 Marina di Campo
Arrival in afternoon Piombino, from where we will take the ferry to Elba. Then it’s just a short journey to the beautiful village of Marina di Campo, where we will stay for 4 nights. Settle in and explore your new surroundings with a colourful harbour and white-sand bay. This is the longest stretch of sand on the island so why not take a stroll and dip your toes in the water. Alternatively, you can relax in one of the many delightful cafés. Dinner at hotel and overnight in Marina di Campo.
Day 2 Chiessi, Portoferraio
Departure to the north-western part of the island. The first stop will be the tiny village of Chiessi, then we journey along the picturesque coast to Portoferraio. We stroll through the streets of downtown, through the port, and visit the typical local open-air market. We continue with a guided tour of the Villa Dei Mulini, former winter residence of the French emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. Although Napoleon's exile on Elba was brief, he left behind a considerable cultural and historical patrimony. Return in late afternoon to the hotel in Marina di Campo for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3 Marciana, Nautilus cruise
Today we visit the old city of Marciana with its splendid waterfront. Here we ride the cableway to the summit of Monte Capanne, Elba’s highest point. The views across to the French island of Corsica are well worth the short journey. In the afternoon we embark on the glass-bottomed vessel ‘The Nautilus’ for a two-hour cruise, an experience which will enable you to admire Elba’s beauty from the sea and which will introduce you to the underwater wonders of the Mediterranean. Your skipper will point out the amazing sight of a shipwrecked boat from the 1970s. With so much to see you’ll find the time flies by. Return in late afternoon to the hotel in Marina di Campo for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4 Capoliveri, Porto Azzuro, La Chiusa
Enjoy the stunning scenery of the south-eastern part of the island. We will explore the remote Roman mining town of Capoliveri then continue on to the island’s second port: the modern, cosmopolitan resort of Porto Azzuro. You should see plenty of sleek yachts in the harbour that contrast beautifully against the backdrop of the 17th century Spanish fortress. You will have free time to explore the shops, the medieval fortress and the picturesque harbour at your own pace. It’s then time to continue on to the countryside winery of La Chiusa. You will take a tour of the estate’s cellar to learn how the wine is produced. The cellar, the country house, the walls and the mini chapel here all date back to the 1700’s and it is said that Napoleon itself visited the winery on two occasions. Before we head back to base, you will sample the wine in gardens with some snacks like bruschetta and local cheese. Return in late afternoon to the hotel in Marina di Campo for dinner and overnight stay.
